Technical Progress Report on the activities implemented in 2007

Summary

All ministries responsible for nature protection in five countries accepted to cooperate on DAE Project. Five national scientific coordinators were appointed by autumn, and the kick-off workshop for the Scientific Committee was held in Sarajevo in November, 2007.

Albania and Montenegro signed the Memorandum of Understanding in December, 2007, while Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina sent written assurances that the signing process is ongoing and will be completed in January, 2008. However, four countries appointed their national project coordinators, and the cooperation with them was established.

Members of the Dinaric Arc Initiative agreed on a steering/advisory role at the meeting in Zabljak (July, 07). WWF MedPO organized the second DAI meeting in Split (5-6 Dec 07), and focused on the Big Win that was presented by the Program Director and accepted by DAI members. Big Win’s coordinator was selected and will be contracted in the period end-of-January/beginning-of February, 2008.

The PA gap analysis outline was developed ahead of the scheduled time for this activity in the work plan, and the key biodiversity targets were selected as well.

This project was presented at DAI side-event during the Environment for Europe Ministerial Conference in Belgrade, November, 2007.

Three DAE countries completed their scorecards.
